As one of the world's top specialists in hydrazine hydrate and its derivatives, Arkema provides AZDN (Azo-bis-isobutyronitrile), an azo-initiator that is safely and easily used in free radical polymerization processes guaranteeing quality products delivered to you on time.
Properties
Sold in powder or granular form, this product provides the following benefits:
- Better control of polymerization: implementation temperature of 45 to 100°C, linear polymer, high molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution, no cross-linking, little or no branching, no “eye-fishing” guaranteeing transparency, etc.
- No oxygenated or hydrogenated residues: slower ageing of polymers, stability of pigmented or dyed polymer systems
(Note that AZDN must be transported and stored at a temperature below 15° C).
Markets and applications
Free-radical polymerization
AZDN is mainly used in polymerization reactions to initiate or terminate the polymerization process, or to reduce the residual monomer content. Its possible applications thus cover many fields: acrylic glass sheets, flocculants, acrylic fibres, paints and coating resins, grafted polyols…
Free radical synthesis
AZDN is also used as a catalyst for free radical halogenation, sulphochlorination, addition of phosphorus applied for the manufacture of agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and solvent extraction reagents.
Blowing agent
AZDN is used as a low temperature chemical blowing agent for pressure blown PVC and silicone rubber. End applications include wind turbine blades, isolation panels, flotation devices, boat structures and seat foams, etc.
